A group of Hardin-Simmons University professors began The Catclaw Creek Boys to play old-time string-band music on acoustic instruments. After a name change, the current group -- one retired (original member) professor, one college administrator, a high school physics teacher and a pharmacist -- has been playing together for over fifteen years. Catclaw Creek has performed for Erinshire Folk Festival, Abilene Art Walk, Friends of the Abilene Public Library, Mesquite Storytellers Tellabration, The Abilene Zoological Society, Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene Balloon Festival, and a host of local civic organizations. Catclaw Creek has performed at various fund raising events for organizations like Harmony Family Services, Disability Resources, Memory Walk, and Abilene Adult Day Care. The group has provided music for many Hardin-Simmons community events such as Western Heritage Day, the all-school sing and the Adopt-A-Grandparent banquet. They enjoy entertaining residents of local retirement centers and other private events. The current members of the group are:

Jim Jones (guitar, vocal, and mandolin)
Taylor Rankin (dulcimer and wise old sage)
Greg Young (6-string guitar, string bass and vocal)
Bill Casey (6 & 12-string guitar, kazoo, and vocal)
