A group of Hardin-Simmons University professors began The Catclaw Creek Boys to play old-time string-band music on acoustic instruments. After a name change, the current group -- three professors, a high school physics teacher and a pharmacist -- has been playing together for seven years. Catclaw Creek has performed for Art Walk, Friends of the Library, Mesquite Storytellers Tellabration, The Abilene Zoological Society, Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene Balloon Festival, and a host of local civic organizations. Catclaw Creek has performed at various fund raising events for organizations like Harmony Family Services and Abilene Adult Day Care. The group has provided music for many Hardin-Simmons community events such as Western Heritage Day, the all-school sing and the Adopt-A-Grandparent banquet. They enjoy entertaining residents of local nursing homes and retirement centers. The current members of the group are:
Herb Grover (guitar, vocal, and choreographer)
Taylor Rankin (dulcimer and wise old sage)
Greg Young (6-string guitar, string bass and vocal)
Bill Casey (12-string guitar, kazoo, and vocal)
